Aiden relaxed somewhat, tucking her right foot behind her left one on the floor and slightly settling into the chair a little as she listened to Christine's words. Aiden offered a smile to the older woman, nodding at her. "I understand that completely," she said, shrugging her shoulders lightly. "After my father passed, I sort of went into a spiraling depression. I felt like no one in the family cared abotu it but me. I became a total recluse, lashing out at people as well. But some good came of it. It brough me and my mother closer, seeing as we never really knew each other..." Aiden trailed off, hoping that she wasn't monopolizing the conversation.
She chuckled once softly and looked down, thinking abotu Esme. "And that's a totally different story in and of itself." She remembered the days, the longs days so many months before, when Aiden had felt that Marissa and Mark had turned their backs on the family. But she realized now, they'd simply been fighting their own battles in their own ways. Mark threw himself into sports, Marissa into work. And Aiden....Aiden without her father just collapsed.
Weakness. The one thing Aiden despised in herself. "I was just too weak to see that my brother and sister were coping as best they knew how. I felt like everyone shoudl have been grieving the way I was, but that just doesn't happen." Aiden looked back up at Christine, chewing her lip slightly.
"I think that's what brought Hayden and I so close. Whether we wanted to admit it or not, we both needed to let go in order to move on. To stop blaming ourselves and stop torturing ourselves and appreciate what we had. And I think we've come to find our strength in each other. Especially over such touchy subjects," Aiden admitted, her voice soft and nearly diplomatic. She heard more shouts from the porch but attempted to block them out, hoping things would eventually die down.
